Dear Dee:
What would you do about a friend who always seems to have their phone out? There seem to be secret photos or videos going on. I don’t understand why the phone is in odd positions. Who reads or scroll with a phone prompt up on a knee? That does not seem normal. I am not the only one who noticed this but no one raised the question. We like to capture moments we are all aware of but what is with the secrecy? I need help, my friend might be paparazzi.
Dear My Friend might be Paparazzi:
This is a little strange. Call your friend out and see what the response is. Work it into a conversation. “Why is your phone on your knee and no one asked you to take a picture?” What is there to gain by taking these secret photos and/or videos. This might be some sort of side hustle (i.e. paparazzi, detective or stock photos). All jokes aside, I would not feel comfortable hanging around someone I cannot trust. It will put you on the defense and out of your normal behavior. When you are trying to have a good time, being the concern with secret videos is not good. Think about this person walking in the room and you freeze or stop talking all the time. Hey, this might be a good experiment. If this person asks why you stop talking when they are around, bring up the phone issue. If this person is in a core group, I am sure they will always be around. Yet, in today’s world, camera phones and videos are everywhere. It is part of our culture and everyone seem to have their phone out.
Let me know how this situation turns out. What is the true angle or an assumption on your part? That is if you care to share.
