Mommy, May I, is not only a children’s game…it’s a single mother’s calling. I am a proud mother of two beautiful, smart and talented kids. I’m so blessed to have a son and daughter. The world of double standard of what girls and boys should do. Why is there a double standard? Can we teach our daughter’s to be too independent? Is it possible for our boys to not be strong. I answer ‘yes’ to both. This can happen unknowingly because of the upbringing you unintentionally pass on. But in a mother’s eyes, it’s all about protecting, from the moment you find out you are pregnant.
There is no book about everything you will go through when raising a child. Wait one second! Where is the book? Please leave the name below…I would love to see if my parenting style line up with the book. Let’s face it we all have different parenting techniques. What works in your household might not work for another. It’s our responsibility to give our kids the tools to go out and be the best they can be. I see this as a daily process no matter how old they get.
Mommy, May I…you really cannot get tired of hearing that. Oh yeah, feeling like the energizer bunny and you find yourself going into overdrive. Especially when the kids fall asleep. Mother’s do you remember after you gave birth and your home with your sweet bundle of joy. The most sane advice you received was “sleep while the baby sleeps”. How long did you keep that up? Let’s just make a note this mother completed three degrees while my kids slept. I accomplished the most recent one last August. Let me pause for a moment and pat myself on the back yet again.
Three things a young mother can do while the kids sleep:
- Have a cup of tea
- Read a good book
- Ohhh, wait….SLEEP (a good read on Wellness Mama)

Parenting takes time, effort, love and so much more. The feeling of celebrating with your kids daily keep fueling your spirit. I applaud the mothers that do it daily without question and proudly. It’s not easy, but remember you were chosen to be a mother. So, become the MVP (most valuable parent) of motherhood. I’m not a new mother anymore and I have young adults now. Where did the time go?
I don’t ever want to stop hearing the words Mommy, May I…even if it’s just for an opinion.
It’s not because my children think I’m Wonder Woman, although I do remind them I’m fierce. Oh yeah, she a bad momma…had to pat myself on the back again. We don’t do that enough.
Remember, the time will come for you to trust your parenting skills and watch your kids just adult.
But you know some days when you hear , Mommy may I…
It’s Woman History Month, so take the time to learn about Merze Tate In 1932 Merze became the first “Colored” American woman to enroll at Oxford University where she studied European diplomatic history…
